The Challenge:
ERV sits at the frontier of climate technology, working in a space defined by molecular systems, storage physics and breakthrough electrochemistry.
The global energy system is being transformed as we move from fossil fuels to modern renewables at extraordinary speed. This shift is redefining industries, capital flows, and infrastructure worldwide, creating an era of unprecedented technological and economic change.
In short, their work is complex, ambitious and deeply technical but their brand wasn’t telling that story with the clarity or confidence it deserved and most importantly, in layman terms.
We were asked to build an identity that brought their precision, ambition and systems-level thinking into the foreground, without diluting the complexity that defines them.
Approach:
01: Understanding the System
Early conversations revealed that ERV doesn’t view climate innovation as a category but as a connected system: ideas → experiments → breakthroughs → infrastructure.
The brand needed to reflect this continuous flow and how interconnected ERVs portfolio’s work is in our day to day lives at a system level change.
02: Designing for Precision
We immersed ourselves in their world, mapping storage cycles, molecular diagrams and energy flows. These patterns became the conceptual foundation of the visual system: motion, transfer, connection.
03: A Human Lens on Deep Tech
Our goal wasn’t to simplify, but to make complexity feel clear and accessible to communicate the “why” without losing the depth of the “how”.
04: Collaborative Identity Building
The project was a genuinely collaborative process. ERV’s team challenged us thoughtfully throughout, ensuring the story reflected the depth and technical focus of their work. It quickly became clear that this wasn’t just a design exercise, but a piece of identity work.
05: Output
What we built with ERV wasn’t about the next quarter or funding cycle, it was about creating a brand that can support the next decade of their work. A brand that grows with their portfolio, gives founders a clear sense of who they’re partnering with, and communicates technical rigour without becoming inaccessible. A tone of voice that respects the complexity of their space without hiding behind jargon.
